ABSTRACT

Objective:To systematically review the severe risk in common chronic diseases and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. Methods:PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, China Biology Medicine disc, medRxiv, SSRN and ChinaXiv were searched for clinical and epidemiological studies that reported chronic diseases in patients with COVID-19. Only studies of severe COVID-19 in comparison with non-severe controls were included. The prevalence rates of chronic diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes mellitus, hypertension, malignant tumor, cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and chronic liver disease were estimated. Pooled odds ratio ( OR) with 95% confidence interval ( CI) between patients with severe COVID-19 and non-severe groups were calculated. R 3.6.3 software was used for meta-analysis. Results:The search yielded 2 455 articles. A total of 19 eligible comparative studies with 4 792 patients were included in a quantitative analysis. Meta-analysis showed that there was a proportion of 55.0% (95% CI 40.0%-80.0%) male among patients with COVID-19, and the overall pooled prevalence of any chronic diseases in COVID-19 cases was 30.4% (95% CI 24.0%-37.0%). The most prevalent comorbidity was hypertension (16.9%(95% CI 14.0%-20.0%)), followed by diabetes mellitus (8.3%(95% CI 8.0%-9.0%)). The proportion of male patients with severe COVID-19 was higher than that of male patients with non-severe COVID-19 (64.4% vs 52.8%, OR=1.49, 95% CI 1.08-2.05, Z=4.63, P<0.01). The prevalence rates of COPD, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and malignant tumor in severe COVID-19 patients were higher than those of non-severe patients ( OR=5.77, 95% CI 3.80-8.74; OR=4.47, 95% CI 2.71-7.38; OR=3.55, 95% CI 2.86-4.40; OR=3.05, 95% CI=1.76-5.28; OR=2.82, 95% CI=1.96-3.97; OR=2.39, 95% CI=1.77-3.23; OR=2.15, 95% CI 1.27-3.66, respectively, Z=8.37, 6.01, 11.60, 4.20, 5.46, 5.71, 3.12, all P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the prevalence of chronic liver disease between severe and non-severe patients ( OR=1.35, 95% CI 0.84-2.17, P=0.11). Conclusion:COVID-19 patients with chronic diseases have higher risk of developing severe disease, and the ORs from high to low are COPD, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and malignant tumor.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Guizhou is regarded as one hotspot for China's Erythroneurini diversity, from where numerous rare new species have been, or are being, described. A new genus and species of Erythroneurini from Huajiang, Guizhou, China, Anuihuajianga pyramidalis gen. et sp. nov. are described and illustrated. The new genus is characterized by subgenital plate extremely short, with long macrosetae dorsally at base, and small teeth-like setae at apex. The characteristic aedeagus shaped like two overlapping cones can also easily distinguish it from other genera. In general, this study further enriches the diversity of Erythroneurini in southwestern China.

ABSTRACT

Objective To make uncertainty evaluation of total arsenic in pork by using the national food safety standard "GB 5009.11-2014 determination of total arsenic and inorganic arsenic in food", and discuss the influence of each uncertainty component on the determination results so as to improve the accuracy of the experimental results. Methods The uncertainty sources that affected the measurement results in the measurement process, including repeatability measurement, sample weighing, sample dilution, standard concentration, standard curve and so on were evaluated. The uncertainty introduced by the repeatability measurement was evaluated by class A, the uncertainty caused by other factors was evaluated by class B, and the phase was calculated according to each component. The synthetic standard uncertainty and the relative expanded uncertainty were discussed, and so were the influence of the uncertainty components on the measurement results. Results According to the contribution of uncertainty from large to small was the sample standard concentration, standard curve, repeatability determination, sample weighing and sample dilution. The calculated relative composite standard uncertainty was 0.0405, and the relative expanded uncertainty was 0.081 (k=2). Conclusion The experimental results show that the concentration of standard substance has a great influence on the measurement process, so it is necessary to standardize the dilution process and simplify the dilution procedure to improve the accuracy of measurement results.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of L-carnitine on myocardial injury in rats with heatstroke. Methods: orty-eight rats were randomly divided into control, heatstroke and 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg L-carnitine groups. The last three groups were treated with 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg L-carnitine, respectively, for seven successive days. Then, except for the control group, the other four groups were transferred into the environment with ambient temperature of (39.5 ± 0.4 °C) and relative humidity of (13.5 ± 2.1%) for 2 h. The core temperature (Tc), mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR) and serum and myocardial indexes were detected. Results: Compared with the heatstroke group, in the 100 mg/kg L-carnitine group, the Tc was significantly decreased, the MAP and HR were significantly increased, the serum creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, tumor necrosis factor α and interleukin 1β levels were significantly decreased, the myocardial superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase levels were significantly increased, the myocardial malondialdehyde level was significantly decreased and the cardiomyocyte apoptosis index and myocardial caspase-3 protein expression level were remarkably decreased (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The L-carnitine pretreatment can alleviate the myocardial injury in heatstroke rats through reducing the inflammatory response, oxidative stress and cardiomyocyte apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

Brown ducks carrying DHBV were widely used as hepatitis B animal model in the research of the activity and toxicity of anti-HBV dugs. Studies showed that the ratio of DHBV carriers in the brown ducks in Guilin region was relatively high. Nevertheless, the characters of the DHBV genome of Guilin brown duck remain unknown. Here we report the cloning of the genome of Guilin brown duck DHBV and the sequence analysis of the genome. The full length of the DHBV genome of Guilin brown duck was 3 027bp. Analysis using ORF finder found that there was an ORF for an unknown peptide other than S-ORF, PORF and C-ORF in the genome of the DHBV. Vector NTI 8. 0 analysis revealed that the unknown peptide contained a motif which binded to HLA * 0201. Aligning with the DHBV sequences from different countries and regions indicated that there were no obvious differences of regional distribution among the sequences. A fluorescence quantitative PCR for detecting DHBV was establishment based on the recombinant plasmid pGEM-DHBV-S constructed. This study laid the groundwork for using Guilin brown duck as a hepatitis B animal model.

ABSTRACT

Twenty-four endophytic actinomycetes strains were isolated from the Salvia przewalskii in Tibetan Plateau of China by tablet coating method. Fusarium moniliforme, Helminthosporium turcicum and Bipolaris maydis were selected as indicator fungi to test the antimicrobial activities of these endophytic actinomycetes by tablet confrontation method. The results showed that 21 strains can produce antimicrobial substances which accounts for 85.7% of the total separates number. Four strains of endogenous actinomyces have more obvious antifungi activity. According to results of morphology and culture properties and 16S rDNA sequences of endophytic actinomyces, it is concluded that all of the isolates were streptomycetes trains.

ABSTRACT

Purpose To describe the clinical and pathological features of atypical vascular lesions (AVLs) after conservative surgery and radiation of the breast cancer, and to discuss the association with post-radiation angiosarcoma. Methods The clinical and pathological features in one case of AVLs was evaluated. The literatures were reviewed. Results The patient is a 57-yeAR~-old female who underwent a conservative surgery of the right breast because of a carcinoma. She received standard dose of radiation as adjuvant therapy.Three years later, multiple erythematous plaques developed around the former scar, which radiated to the nipple.Clinically, the plaques were considered as relapses of the carcinoma. However, fine needle aspiration gave negative results.Biopsy of one large plague revealed a circumscribed vascular lesion confined to the superficial dermis. It was composed of thin-walled anastomosing lymphatic vessels lined by attenuated endothelial cells. In focal areas, the vessels extended to the mid-dermis.Immunohistochemically, the endothelial cells were positive for CD31, CD34 and D2-40,with absent of α-SMA positive pericytes.Review of the breast tumor sections showed an invasive micropapillary carcinoma. Conclusions AVLs is a rare vascular lesion related with conservative surgery and post-radiation therapy of the breast.AVLs may represent as a precursor of breast angiosarcoma.Being familiar with the clinicopathologic characteristics of AVLs is important not only for the pathologists but also for the clinicians.

Among 30 patients in the control group, 16 patients were male and 14 patients were female, ranging in age from 18 to 91 years, with an average of (51.9 +/- 0.1) years. Twelve patients injured with traffic accident, 1 patient with falling injuries and 17 patients with tumble. Based on the Garden classification for femoral neck fractures, 5 patients were type I, 2 patients were type II,15 patients were type III, and 8 patients were type IV. Patients in the control group were treated with cannulated screw fixation only. All the patients were followed up for 2 years after operation. The fracture healing and complications were evaluated and compared between the two groups.

RESULTSThe average healing time was (7.1 +/- 1.2) months in the observing group and (8.0 +/- 1.4) months in the control group. The healing of femoral neck fracture occurred in 29 cases in observing group while in 24 cases in the control group contrast to femoral head necrosis occurred in 1 case in the observing group while in 6 cases in the control group. According to Harris scoring system, the good and excellent rate of the two groups had statistical difference (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONCannulated screw fixation and percutaneous autogenous bone marrow grafting is a more efficient method for accelerating healing of femoral neck fractures and reducing femoral head necrosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore distally-based the interal ankle perforator saphenou neuro-veno-fasciocutaneous flap has been universally adopted for the repairment of the foot and the ankle soft-tissue defects. Methods Lay a foundation of anatomic studying, using the interal ankle perforator saphenous neuro-venofasciocutaneous flap 10 cases, the flap axis point was 1-3 cm above the pink of the interal ankle, average 2 cm. The scope of the flap were 4.0 cm× 3.0 cm-8.0 cm× 6.0 cm. Results All the perforator saphenous neuro-veno-fasciocutaneous flap were lively. About all, 2 cases had the small distant part necrosis, 1 case accompanying with subcutaneous tissue heels after change dressings, another heels after skin grating. All case can walk as usual, the flap had wear-resisting and keenly feel. Conclusion Distally-based the interal ankle perforator saphenous neuro-veno-fasciocutaneous flap, near ankle, donner area exiting fine, utlizing scope large, skin nice, grating easy, no hurting important blood vessle, alive rate high, it is an good donner area in repairing the foot and the ankle soft-tissue defects.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the effect of all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) on the growth inhibition and cellular differentiation of C6 glioma cells.@*METHODS@#Human glioma C6 cells were treated with 5 mg/L ATRA,and the inhibition of cell growth was assessed by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay. The differentiation of C6 cells was determined by flow cytometry, microscopy, transmission electron microscope, and immunohistochemical technique.@*RESULTS@#Treatment of ATRA could result in the growth inhibition of C6 cells, and the cell density significantly decreased(P0.05).Whereas, early apoptosis was observed under the transmission electron microscope, the vacuoles increased, the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum were abundant in the cytoplasm, and the cellular structures tended to be normal. The expression of glial fibrillaryacidic protein in C6 cells increased in the treatment group.@*CONCLUSION@#ATRA can inhibit the proliferation, and induce the differentiation of C6 glioma cells.
